If you’re looking to elevate your dinners with lamb, adding a wine pairing is a must!

Understanding which wines go with beautifully, mild flavoured SunGold lamb will delight your taste buds, and impress your guests. However, with so many options out there, we get that wine pairing can seem daunting!

To make things nice and easy, we’ve narrowed this list down to our top five wine recommendations that go perfectly with our mild flavoured SunGold lamb!

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is light-to-medium bodied. It has aromas of strawberry, cherry, and raspberry with subtle hints of vanilla and leather, making it a fruity and juicy wine to go with your mouthwatering lamb dish!

Pinot Noir is an easy drinking wine, which makes it great for those dipping their toes into the vino world. The slight acidity and notes of fruit really help to complement the rich flavour of lamb. Pinot Noir is round and smooth, and pairs well with herb seasoning and fresh vegetables.

Let’s start out with this: It’s a myth that white wine doesn’t go with lamb!

A fine Bordeaux wine, red or white, makes a wonderful pairing with SunGold lamb.

Red Bordeaux wines are medium-to-full bodied, with aromas of plum and black currant. They also have earthy notes of pencil lead or wet gravel. However, the taste of the wine itself is fruity, leading into savory, prickly tannins.

White Bordeaux wines are either fruity and light, or creamy and rich. We recommend selecting a fruity white Bordeaux wine to go with lamb, as its flavours of grapefruit, citrus, and lemon will add layers to your meal.

If you’re feeling spicy, Syrah wine makes the perfect accompaniment to your lamb masterpiece!

Syrah is Pinot Noir’s boisterous, outgoing older sister. This wine is one of the world’s darkest reds, and is bold in flavor. It features a great amount of delectable tannins, and is full bodied. With flavours of dark berries and spices, Syrah will add spice and dimension to your next lamb dish.

Dish Suggestion: Lamb Loin

A bottle of Chianti makes an excellent choice that everyone will be sure to sip and indulge in with their lamb.

There are two versions of Chianti: Chianti and Chianti Classico. We suggest pairing lamb with Chianti Classico, as it is more refined and higher end than Chianti.

As a medium-bodied red wine, you can expect earthy notes with fruity flavours of strawberry and cherry. It’s also high in acidity, which offsets lamb’s slight marbling very well.

Dish Suggestion: Lamb Pasta

You can have rosé all day as it pairs beautifully with lamb dishes!

Rosé has a light pink colour. It features notes of strawberry, citrus, and flower, making it a light and delicious wine for lamb.

If you choose to enjoy your lamb with rosé, we strongly recommend opting for a rosé produced in either Bandol or Tavel in France.
